Libre Office kerning

Am I crazy in that the weird kerning in Libre Office is making driving me *nuts?* Like, I'm seriously considering composing in notepad and pasting into Libre Office for formatting because the letter spacing is so weird. Or maybe just writing in an old-school fixed-width font. At a glance, it sometimes looks like I have an extra space in words that I don't and I'll move the cursor there to correct it but there's nothing to change.
I'm not the only one...

Ok; I changed to a Courier fixed-width font because this is ridiculous.
