Parents Across the Border
Jun. 16th, 2022 10:57 amMy parents made it across the border, and I am relieved! I didn't really expect there would be any problems, but crossing the border makes me anxious.
They're bringing a bunch of things we left in the US, and even though our paperwork for duty and import fees is in order, I was worried. The system is really set up for wealthy people who can just ship everything they have in one go when they're moving to a new country.
We still have so much more stuff with them, and with Posicat too. Looking at our declarations, I'm realizing things like having declared 200 books was probably an error. It's definitely closer to 2000 than 200. It's just impossible to create a full itemized list of all your possessions in country A when you're living 4000 miles away in country B and are moving to country C. I'm scared that we're going to end up paying duty on a bunch of things that we shouldn't have to. At least I should be employed by the time we're ready to move *everything,* so hopefully we'll be able to afford it.
