Feb. 13th, 2007 09:26 amI'm at home, but I'm about to leave again. I got on the road at seven o' clock, then got in a fender bender at seven fifteen when I was coming into an intersection and my brakes completely failed to have any noticeable effect. Was being blown around the road pretty well, and at the next couple of intersections, I had nearly as much trouble stopping as at the first one.
At that point, I gave up and went home. I didn't feel up to dealing with it. So I got home and tried to call my manager. I'd forgotten that, for some reason, when I call the voice system where I work, DTMF tones from my phone are not recognized by our PBX. I don't know why; maybe it's because I'm on VOIP. I even found a DTMF tone generator online and tried to dial with that, but success was spotty at best. After swearing and cursing, I got ahold of the operator by just waiting on the line through all the prompts and left my manager a voice mail explaining the situation.
I then checked email and found that, not only was Serin not going to be there today, but our team lead was out sick. There was no one at all at the support desk. I called our team lead on his cell to see what he thought I should do and whether he was going to be in at all today. He isn't coming in, but I got a direct number for our manager and called him again.
He told me that he wouldn't mind me working from home if I could, but without being able to dial anyone's extension at work, that's not going to work very well. I'm going to have to get back on the road and get down to Illinois.
I was feeling much more distraught before I got a deeply appreciated call from my wonderful mate. I'm still stressed out, and I'm going to be more so once I get to work and see everything piled up, but I'm better.
*sigh* Once more unto the breach, dear friends.
