Picked up my lens at the post office in Pleasant Prarie where the carrier dropped it off for me after I called said post office to tell them that they mis-delivered my lens. The carrier for my route happened to be there and was able to pick it up from the place he dropped it off yesterday. Whee!

I just shot a series of pictures of Andrea's reproduction Tiffany lamp in aperture priority mode, stepping from smallest to largest aperture. I'm interested in seeing how the sharpness compares through the set.

This is a quality lens, and it shows. The one I own is plastic; this one is metal. The manual focus ring has a much longer path of travel, so focusing when circumstances prohibit doing it automatically (like the dark spots in The House on the Rock) will be easier. The front and rear elements are huge compared to my lens, which makes sense considering my lens is only an f3.5 and this one is a 1.8. I realized while shooting the lamp that it might not be quite as wide an angle as would be optimal for The House; a lot of that stuff is going to be close up. But it will work pretty well for a lot of it too. There's a huge variety of stuff there. Hopefully I can get steady shots without benefit of a tripod if I open it up all the way and bump the film speed up to 800 or 1600. I'd hate to go up to 3200 and end up with seriously grainy photos, but that's there too if I decide it's called for.

I spent some time at work between other things reading up about photographer's rights in the United States and have some pretty good links. I printed out a one page PDF that a photography enthusiast and attorney put together as a flyer to carry around in your gear bag. There's a nifty page too called Photopermit.org that serves as a news feed focusing on issues related to that subject. Very interesting reading indeed.

I think I need a photography icon.

Cleaned the bathroom. Had dinner. Am about to pack my clothes. Andrea and I both stressed for a while about not being able to find a cabin-style place to stay at a campground; she decided that with her nasal problems, allergies, and the probable damp whether, she wasn't going to be up to all-out camping. But the cabins were all taken. Finally we went with a (relatively) cheap hotel room. Still more money than we were expecting to spend, but we'll deal with it.

My brother [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter has been enlisted for dog and house sitting. I have a fresh bag of dog food ready for him. I think we're good to go! I just with my wrist would stop hurting. It was better for a day or so after [livejournal.com profile] foreignlegion did his magic on it, but it deteriorated again, possibly worse than it was before. I have to stop all that silly typing, you know?
