Jun. 6th, 2007 11:02 pmI know, I know; more geek stuff. I haven't posted that sort of thing in a while, so I think I'm due one.
Delivered two laptops to my parents' place today during dinner, one for my dad and one for my brother, Tim, as a payment for the house sitting he's been doing for me. They're 1.7Ghz and 2.0Ghz respectively, with half a gig of RAM and Radeon 7500 integrated cards. Unfortunately, while my dad was browsing the music collection I put on his for him, the machine hard locked twice. It didn't do that while I was loading it, so I'm hoping it's not a hardware problem and is instead software related. I'll have to see what I can do with it when I have a chance. Assuming the problem continues; I asked him to let me know. I also only have one power supply, so they're going to have to share for the time being!
Got a desktop built for
foreignlegion that's ready to leave. I finally have my tablet happily updating itself after several abortive Windows installation attempts. I have my file-sharing box, Midnight, chugging away again after temporarily taking it down for some reason I can't remember anymore. I think I needed the KVM port. I think I'm going to dig another computer out of the basement and build XP on it if I can find a license and call it Labanimal. I'll use it for testing of downloaded software packages.
Speaking of which, I'm trying to get working copies of Photoshop and Adobe's Lightroom package. I have a trial version of Lightroom and it sounds really nifty. It's for mass editing of digital pictures, and also lets you sort them, catalog them (including keeping track of offline storage), keyword them, and put together web galleries. If I really like it, I might even save up and buy an official licensed copy. At around $200, that's not awful. Photoshop, on the other hand, is going to be well out of my price range for a long time, unfortunately. I do like to support the makers of good software when I can, but right now, I can't. But I can't wait to see how photo editing via tablet screen and pen works!
The handyman is coming over to the house on Monday. We're supposed to make a list of the items that need attention. Including, of course, the leaking kitchen ceiling that my mate mentioned earlier. I'm a little embarrassed about how to explain the number of issues, or the cause of some of them. But in any case, I have Monday off of work to meet with him and we'll go from there. He won't be by until between ten and eleven, so maybe I'll use the morning to clean up the yard a little bit. We still have two cars to get rid of, but I can at least make things look more presentable.
This weekend I'll be heading off to Michigan for
laureth's and
murstein's wedding. They're very cool folks indeed who we haven't been able to see in far too long. My wedding present idea for them hasn't quite worked out (I didn't have the time for it! Where did it all go?) but I have another idea on that anyway.
It's late; I really ought to go to bed soon. *sighs* That whole 'sleep' thing is such a pain in the tail, you know?
