Jun. 11th, 2007 02:21 pmThe handyman was supposed to be here between ten and eleven. At a little after one, I got his number from Andrea and gave him a call. He'd forgotten about us. After I reminded him, he did manage to find his note with our address and everything on. He's going to finish a faucet he's doing and then come by.
Do you know, I actually don't mind that he forgot? I took the day off work for this and have been waiting here for him instead of going out to get food, but at least he will still get here today. He sounded like a really nice guy on the phone; I have a fatherly sort of image of this older gentleman who's skilled with tools and just enjoys using them. His voice was very disarming.
The other reason I'm just as happy he forgot is kind of odd. It puts me in a position of power. See, I'm not good at dealing with people to begin with. To be in a situation where I have to talk to someone I don't know, invite him into a messy house, and ask him to fix things that I've broken puts me in a very uncomfortable position. The fact that he forgot and apologized for it and is coming over late to do the work gives me this strange mental edge.
It probably sounds like I'm into power and control games. I'm not. Really. It's very unusual for me that I'm conscious of and act on that sort of thing. I don't know if there's really something wrong about it or not. I'd never be blunt enough to directly acknowledge it with him either. I'm the sort of person who apologized to people who move into my way for me wanting to go where they are. But, in that weird, selfish way, I'm glad to have something that puts me on a more even footing here. Is that so wrong?
On the other hand, if I am evil, according to a note I got from him on the LAFF list,
tygercowboy apparently has to cover me with marshmallow and pink bows. Now, I dunno about getting marshmallow fluff out of my fur, but I wouldn't entirely object to the pink bows. *giggles*

EDIT:
Handydude got here and all went swimmingly. He had no issue at all with the number of problems and when he said he was a mason I got to tell him about my godfather being one too and he was just really pleasant and easygoing and extremely apologetic about being late without me having said a word about it. Crisis averted! He didn't have all the parts he needed, but he'll be back tomorrow when Andrea gets home to finish up.
