Andrea is doing just fine with her new needle-poking regimen. It's me who's having trouble dealing with it apparently.

I watched her test last night and got a little bit nervous, but managed to stay through it. But then she put her finger up for me to look at saying something to the effect of 'See? Not so bad!'. I was completely squicked.

In fact, I had a nightmare last night that we were at a beach and I was looking inside a cabinet that had some fishing poles in it and I brushed up against a fish hook that then drove itself straight through my right index finger in a way that I can only describe as intentional. I tried to yell for help, but I couldn't seem to get any decent volume out of my voice. Andrea couldn't hear me and eventually left without me. I was rescued, oddly enough, by a friend of my dad's from the theatre, Ray, who cut the hooked ends off of the fish hook and pushed it the rest of the way through my finger so the reverse facing barbs didn't tear me up. (Yes, my dreams seem to be pretty detailed at times.) I still have this weird, lingering itchiness bordering on discomfort in the tip of my finger as I type.

My dad's got a neat glucometer that creates a vaccuum seal to your skin and makes just the tiniest little puncture and sucks enough blood out to test with. Hurts less, leaves less of a mark, and you can do it nearly anywhere on your body. So, of course, when I asked my mom where he got it with the intent of buying one for Andrea, she told me it's been discontinued. He can't even find the test strips for it anymore.

I'm going out to take pictures at lunch. While getting pizza with [livejournal.com profile] serinthia yesterday, we passed by an under-construction water tower; just a cylindrical concrete core with a flared base and a large industrial crane sticking out the top of it. I'm going to drive out there around noon, park my truck at the side of the road, and shoot a few pictures. We'll see how long it takes before some concerned citizen calls the police for fear that I'm selling water tower plans to terrorist groups or something.

I got the downstairs cleaned up, did a metric bigpile of laundry, and packed up my second Pentium Pro server for shipment to Mendota. I put three more things on Ebay and organized my workbench. Feeling accomplished, I actually got online and chatted with people the last couple nights in a row. That was nice. I get a little flustered when I have four people talking to me at once, but I'm working on that. I figure it's a lot like email. I have enough social anxiety from time to time that it used to stress me out just to check email everyday! I can't explain that either; I'm broken that way. But now I keep it open next to me at work all day. Hopefully I'll get better with chat too.

Tonight will be the aforementioned trip to the geek mecca that is Microcenter (or Fry's). We'll also discuss weekend plans, and camping plans. I'd forgotten that next week is the fourth of July! There was some talk about going to The Taste of Chicago on Saturday with [livejournal.com profile] tybis, and then setting up the pool after getting back. We'd have to leave to get down to Chicago early to ahve time for both, but I'm up for that. We'll see how it plays out.

I have two crashed systems to work on and a new hire system to build. Back to work!
