I tried coffee for the first time last night! When the group of us went out to Mo's for [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon's 2nd weekly coffee meetup, I told my sweetie, who was kind enough to take my order up to the counter for me, that I wanted the same thing I'd had last week. Now, last week, I'd had this simply blissful hot chocolate with peppermint and toasted marshmallow flavor, and whipped cream on top. Oh it was good!

but she came back with this cup of something that...wasn't. It tasted sort of like what I had last week, but...something was wrong. I tried a few sips, and there was a hint of mint and marshmallow there, but there was something wrong. It was more earthy, and a little bit bitter. I didn't know what it was, but it wasn't what I had last week. Much like the drink that the Heart of Gold provided to Arthur Dent when he asked it to make tea for him, I seemed to have a drink that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike hot chocolate with mint.

I asked Andrea to try a sip, telling her that I wasn't sure, but I think this might be coffee. Oddly enough, she wasn't able to tell. I have to admit to some confusion about that; I guess she's accustomed enough to the taste that she couldn't tell. But then [livejournal.com profile] todd_riverden (and [livejournal.com profile] serinthia!) showed up and, trying a small amount of it, told me that, yes, this was definitely coffee. Well, at least now, not only do I not like the stuff, but I can say so from experience. Once [livejournal.com profile] samiitiger and [livejournal.com profile] magiccicada showed up, I gave my drink to Samii. Then she surprised me by buying me another hot chocolate, on top of the one that Andrea bought me to replace my drink. I had two pretty girls buying me drinks! *giggles*

After we left the cafè, Samii, Magiccicada, [livejournal.com profile] posicat, [livejournal.com profile] tybis, and Tanuki dropped by our place so I could give Posi the Monty Pythin and Holy Grail laserdisc that's been sitting around the house to him for his new laserdisc player and so I could dig up a PDA for Samii to use. The six of us talked and socialized for an hour or so and had a really great time! I had a really nice conversation with Tanuki when we all went down for buffet on Thursday too; it's too bad he's only visiting. We really get along well.

This weekend, I think, is mainly going to be used for catching up on projects and working on the basement. I have finally tracked down the drivers for the RAID controller in that server that's been taking up floor space in my computer room, so I'm setting up 2000 server as I type this. Then it's going off to the Dwarf and I can use the extra room to pack up all the stuff that just sold on Ebay this past week so I can ship on Monday. And maybe I can even find time to write an update of more depth.

And, because I'm listening to MC Hawking, I have to throw in some random quotes from the music. Imagine these spoken, with a hip-hop beat background, by the speech synthesizer that Professor Hawking uses....

"You all ready for me to drop some science on your ass?"

"The earth is not a closed system; it's powered by the sun.
So fuck the damn creationists; Doomsday, get my gun."

Perhaps it's juvenile, but I'm finding nerdcore rap highly amusing.
