I replaced the kitchen faucet this Sunday. I r domestic puppeh! After all, as I keep reminding my mate, I am a working breed. I felt this odd connection to my parents while working on it, and kept thinking of watching my mother working on various household fixtures. My dad likes to tell the story of the holiday dinner preparations one year when he was busy making dinner for people and she was in the bathroom fixing the toilet. *grins*

The faucet that was on there was put in by our landlord's handy-d00d, who, though he is a nice guy, is either rather tight-fisted when it comes to replacement household fixtures, or is acting on orders to be so. The faucet he installed was plastic. No, not just a metal faucet with plastic knobs and stuff. The whole thing was plastic. We had to replace it because the plastic threads that held the adapter for the portable dishwasher on the end of the faucet stripped out. Good stuff. Plus it had no spray nozzle, so we had an empty hole for one in the sink. All better now. Good thing I had some thread sealant left over from doing [livejournal.com profile] serinthia's gas lines. I'm feeling all handy now! Yes, I'll be taking the cost of the faucet of of next month's rent. I also have to get handy-d00d to fix the ceiling in the kitchen soon.

Andrea and I saw Iron Man on Sunday. It was pretty good. There weren't a lot of characters, so I only got confused about who was who a couple of times. I have to admit that it seemed a little jingoistic at times, what with the American hero, Iron Man, fighting the forces of power hungry insurgents and corrupt corporate America to save all the poor Afghan refugees. But, as I admitted to my dad, I could just be reading too much into it. All in all, it was pretty good. Having seen the previews, [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon and I are interested in seeing the new M. Night Shyamalan movie, just because we like all his other movies so much. Yes, I even liked The Village, despite seeing the plot twist coming about halfway due to a childhood spent enmeshed in fantasy and science fiction. The only one of his that I found lacking was The Lady in the Water (and I haven't seen Signs, so I can't offer an opinion on that one). I also want to see the Indy movie, if only because epic historical-metaphysical fiction of the Indy flavor ought to look really awesome with the effects that can be done these days. I don't mind waiting and renting it though.

Saturday morning was spent perilously driving the little red trucklet through across the back streets of Kenosha and Zion on the way to the Pick N' Pull, Kuma keeping me company in the back of the cab, as we stopped every couple of miles to make sure the bed cap wasn't going to end up on the road. Andrea followed me in the Aveo so she could call if anything looked to be urgently amiss. After brief concern that we didn't have the necessary identification, we managed to hand over the title and actually get money (or at least a check) in return. A 1993 crew cab Dodge Dakota with 397000 miles on it and a bad transmission is worth about $325 it seems. I can live with that.

From there we went on to [livejournal.com profile] sabrinageek's place where the three of us plus Posi and the usual suspects bagged, boxed, shredded, hauled, and otherwise cleaned up until dinner time, which occurred at a Chinese buffet that continues to seem much too good to be in Rockford. They have those little seafood buns that I had for the first time in Michigan and got totally hooked on and haven't been able to have anywhere else. Yumm!!! They also have green tea ice cream which is not really my cup of... well, you know. But my sweetie is a big fan.

What do you all think of all of M. Night Shyamalan's movies? There seems to be a very wide range of reactions among the people I know.
