stormdogPardon my language here. I don't really get angry about much.
But I'm listening, or was listening, to a piece on NPR about animals being abandoned in foreclosed homes and how this has been increasing as a result of the sub-prime mortgage blow up. I had to turn it off because it was enraging me. I don't give a god-damn about what the situation is; you have no right to abandon an animal that you've lived with, taken care of, and given a home to. You have no damn right to inflict that kind of loneliness, misery, fear and starvation on another living being.
Apparently some people do this out of a belief that abandoning their animal, either in their home or outdoors, is somehow more humane than bringing them to a shelter. Yes, some shelters euthanize animals; I know that. But a few days, or a few weeks, or a few months of having a roof over their head, regular food, and at least some small degree of human contact is a hell of a lot better than a few days to a week of panic, hunger, and a slow death.
And the people who abandon them because they simply don't care what happens to them? I don't believe there's such a thing as a worthless person, but shit...that feels pretty close to me right now.
