stormdogMy little blue car got bonked by a big gray truck. Moira was driving back from Kettle Moraine with me and we stopped at a red light. We proceeded on green and then hit the brakes hard when a police car turned on his lights and siren and drove through the intersection ahead of us. The person behind us, in an obscenely large Chevy of some variety, didn't stop in time and hit us.
Moira was sore, so when I called 911 I asked for an ambulance to make sure she was ok. They took her to the hospital while I took the dog home and went back to the ER to meet her. When I got there, I realized that the other person's license plate was stuck in a gash in the back of my car, so I took it out and put it in the back. The rear end is a little smushed in and the tailgate no longer opens. There are a couple of rectangular holes in my bumper and one of my taillights is broken out.
I met the police officer from the scene at the ER and gave him the license plate. I have the case number and need to call insurance now that I'm awake.
Moira got x-rayed and CT scanned and does not appear to have any broken bones or anything like that. I figured it was just muscle strain since the impact wasn't too bad, but was very glad to have that confirmed.

daveqat and jimcyl for conversation and beverages anyway, the two of them came to stay with us at the ER, for which I was really grateful. As I said, I was fairly sure that Moira wasn't seriously hurt, but I was rather stressed, and having good friends near helped with that, as did a wonderful backrub from Syn.
We were there at the ER for about four hours, so afterward the four of us went to Applebee's for food. We talked for a couple hours more, and then Moira and I filled her prescriptions at the nearby Walgreens (some muscle relaxer and stuff from the hospital doctor) and went home to sleep.
We had plans for the Mazo beach withawfulhorrid and rileybear67 today, but are, regretfully, going to hold off on that for another time and let Moira rest. Maybe they'll come and visit later!
In the meantime, just thought I ought to document the experience for posterity and let everybody know that we're ok.
