Dec. 1st, 2008 07:57 pmIt's another Stormdog brand hardware post! My hardware that I spent my time and money schlepping homeward from work only to find that I really can't use it and probably can't or shouldn't sell it is your gain!
I have a stack of four Contivity Extranet Switch 1500 series boxen. They are used for establishing permanent site-to-site VPN tunnels, or to act as a VPN server for a small office. I think. Anyway, I do not need them, and don't want to put them on Ebay because there may still be routing information from my company on them and they don't seem to sell for much anyway. Anyone want them? If not, they'll go to work for disposal.
I have an old vacuum to part out of get rid of. It's a Kenmore, and the motor is still good. If no one wants it, I'm probably going to put the motor in the basement somewhere for a future unspecified project, and junk the rest.
I've got a few more T-Mobile Blackberrys still. They don't seem to sell on Ebay; maybe they're too old. I don't need them. Posi, do you still want them? If not, does anybody else? Otherwise, I'll bring them to work to dispose of.
Does any one need any small (like 8 or 12 gig) 2.5" laptop drives? If so, please speak up! You are welcome to them after I wipe them with Darik's Boot and Nuke. These will just stay in a box if no one wants them as they're pretty small, but I'll be happy to get some out of here if they're needed.
A small caller ID box. It's battery powered. One battery terminal broke, so I soldered a wire to the right solder point on the circuit board inside; when you put the batteries into it, you just have to make sure that the end of the wire is touching the end of the battery. Going to Goodwill if no one wants it.
A Lingo VoIP box. I no longer have the service and they didn't want the box back. I don't need it anymore and will probably Goodwill it.

And speaking of vacuums, I bought a new one that I am inordinately excited about. It's a Eureka TheBoss Smartvac. Now, I feel nearly apologetic buying something new instead of used, but I've been repairing the old vacuum we've had for years. I even took it nearly all the way apart to track down a wiring problem once (The safety cutoff for the roller bar had failed open, so I just cut it out and wired straight-through to bypass it. No problem! That whole safety thing is overrated, don't you think?). But I think either the motor mount is bad, or the drive spindle is missing some kind of end cap or is off-center because the belt is now continually coming off the spindle and a new belt didn't help. So it was time for a replacement.
And boy does this thing suck! It's great! I used to have to go across the rug by our front door two or three times, and the Eureka does it in one pass. Plus, it's got a HEPA filter on it, so the room smells better after vacuuming! I have even noted in Google Calendar the date when I need to change the filter on it. *bounces*
I am still lacking a coat at this time of year.
serinthia and I are going to stop in at Gurnee Mills after work tomorrow to look at such things for me and to do random wandering. I have not been to a mall in many months, so it should be interesting with the Christmas frenzy going on. I'm planning to bring my camera.
I heard back from the neurologist's office today. They seem to again want more info from my primary care doctor and are going to contact him again. This is an interesting circle that seems to be happening here.
On the memory front, I have started making lists for myself and taping them to the wall in the computer room with masking tape. I have so far posted a listing of places in town that I keep forgetting where they are and how to get to, and a list of things to do before I go to bed. That second list is great; I did everything on it last night and this morning was the fastest I can ever remember being ready for work. I also have a note to myself about something I have to check next month on my cell phone bill, and I plan to keep adding things as appropriate. I think this will help me be more organized. Now I just need to get some of those foam letters to stick on the shower wall. See, from time to time, I put conditioner in my hair, then get distracted and get out of the shower without rinsing it out. Then I have to get back in, set the water temperature again, and possibly find a dry towel again when I'm done. If I just had the word 'rinse' on the wall, staring at me before opening the door of the shower...
I'm kind of tired tonight, but I'm tying to get a little work done in the computer room before I shower and go off to bed.
