stormdogI had a really, wonderfully nice day today!
I went out with my brother and his girlfriend (both LJ-less, as far as I am aware...). We went to みつわ （Mitsuwa, the Japanese market) in Arlington Heights. We stayed there for over four hours, spending at least an hour of it looking at manga and books! Oh delights! Even if it makes me feel illiterate, it was so much fun talking to both of them, especially said girlfriend who was a Japanese major, about anime, manga, and yaoi! *giggles* (His girlfriend and I have some similar tastes! *giggles more*)
We ate at the market, and though I was a little worried about finding food I'd like, I settled on a combo of sticky rice in lotus leaves, spring rolls, and shrimp dumplings! That plus one of the red bean paste buns I really love from Pastry House Hippo (plus a white bean one 'cause I was feeling experimental) were yummy! (My companions had sushi and stuff, which I'm not quite up to yet.)
I'm so glad I changed my mind after my brother called me and I declined. I called back to say, you know, I'm being a doofus and I really need to go out and do stuff with people more often. And I'm so glad I did! *bounces* Today made me really happy.
I'm waiting right now for some of the data that I'm juggling around between devices to finish copying. I need free space on one of my external drives to back up this laptop I'm typing on so I can get XP onto it (finally! I've been lazy on this for months!). I'm starting to really think that my company isn't going to move to a new OS until 7 is ready so I shouldn't have to know Vista all too soon, and I'm tired of dealing with it being cranky!
So; what music are you all listening to lately? There are a couple of tracks I'm listening too on repeat these days. Firstly, Home and The Lighthouse, from Everything That Happens Will Happen Today by Bryan Eno and David Byrne. Home really energizes me and gets me feeling positive, whereas The Lighthouse is one of those slow songs that evokes a sense of thoughtful mystery that haunts my neural paths for an hour or two after hearing it.
As well, I'm listening to (and, in fact, singing to myself while I *clean the bathroom) Winter Hymnal (though I love just about the whole album, Winter Hymnal has lyrics that, haiku-like, spring from a beautiful economy of words that lend strength to their images) from The Fleet Foxes eponymous album. Heavily inspired by singer-songwriter groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, they have this marvelously unforgettable way with harmonies. They feel very indie and honest and open, and I like that a lot.
And finally, to continue the furry theme, I'm listening a lot to Modest Mouse's Float On. Not as new as the other two, I hadn't heard the song in full until it came out on Rock Band Two. It's another wonderfully energizing, positive song that just makes me feel like I'm going to be ok.

Are you hoping that, at some point to come, perhaps even in the not too distant future, you might have a member of (one of) your preferred gender(s) in your living space for *cough* snuggles?
