We've had two employees now who, when they run a script that we sent out to update their antivirus client version and definitions, find that many important files have been permanently removed from the hard drives. These files include the folder that we configure Outlook to store it's offline folders and archived email folders in. Why did this happen? Because the employees in question took it upon themselves to install Vista over the XP that was on their laptops when we issued them, and apparently the script panics under Vista and destroyes things. We don't support Vista, so we are going to have to reimage the systems with XP. I was unable to find the missing files anywhere; they are completely gone.

Please don't do stupid things like install a new OS on a computer that you got from your employer. I really ought to be more accepting of my fellow human beings failures and feel sympathy for them, but I'm not quite there today. I just want to point and laugh. Forgive me.

I snagged an awesome find at the thrift store on the way home yesterday. An Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer.

This is a 13" bed inkjet that uses pigment (instead of dye) based, archival quality inks. It prints up to 2880 x 14400 dots (not quite sure what the large difference in those two numbers means, but it sounds nicely techish!) per inch resolution on gloss, semi-gloss, and matte paper and will do borderless 13" x 19" photos. It uses six separate ink cartridges for color fidelity. It originally retailed for nearly $700, and came with an automatic paper cutter and roll paper feeder, neither of which I have, unfortunately. But it cost me all of 15 dollars. I'm pretty excited; it means I can print my own archival quality, medium format prints for when I start doing art shows.

I tested it in the thrift store by running out to get my laptop and some scrap Mapquest maps. I pulled the drivers down through an internet connection through Bluetooth to my phone, and printed a test page. Works great as far as I could tell from a simple Windows test page, though I think it's out of magenta ink. The review says that's what it goes through the most of. It could be clogged nozzles too I suppose, but it sounds like the self-cleaning is pretty good. I'm going to play with it some more tonight and see what I can do.

But if I get it up and running and any friends are looking for somewhere to get cheap, nice, big prints made, just let me know! I'd ask for a pittance to cover my ink costs, but no more than that. I'd probably just keep the money in an envelope attached to the printer! *grins*

I went to the gym again last night and met someone from the theatre there who I haven't seen in a while; that was kind of fun. Did another half hour on the elliptical. Oh, I found a gym bag at the thrift store too. It says Marines on it and has the logo, but I don't care. It was 3 bucks. I have it packed with a change of clothes and a water bottle. I have dinner with my parents tonight, but I might go gymming again after.

Meh; work is happening now. It's kind of sucky. More later.
