Jun. 17th, 2010 02:06 pmI've sold both my Pearl 3 piece kit and my extra hi-hat stand, netting about two-thirds of what I need for a replacement camera. I have the rest covered from having sold stuff on Ebay. I just emailed a Craig's List seller in DeKalb about a 30D with about 10,000 actuations on it. Canon says the 30D should shutter should last for 100,000, so I'm comfortable with that, and the price will be about $200 less than I could find a decent 40D for.
The 30D also give me spot metering, individual color-channel histograms (rather than the 20D's one-for-all histogram that I never used) and a bigger, brighter LCD. That sounds pretty good to me. I can use the money I save to get my 10-22 lens factory serviced (which I'd need to do anyway) and look for a good hard case for this thing, 'cause the places I go, it tends to get bumped around.
Juan is going to do my wheel bearing this Saturday, I think, so my car should be up to driving out to meet the buyer. Must remember to bring a couple of lenses, my intervalometer, and other goodies to make sure it works and is compatible. (That's a reminder to myself, by the way. Self, remember!) I suggested Wednesday or Friday to drive out there and take some test shots.
synicsim suggested he and I do something this Sunday, and Juan is possibly going to work on my wheel bearing on Saturday. I haven't seen Syn in far too long, so that'll be really nice.
Did I mention I have disassembled one of my keyboards and scrubbed the front, back, inside, and each individual keycap with a toothbrush and soapy water? It'll be old enough to drink in three months and it looks almost brand new!
I did a quick replacement of brake pads for
todd_riverden and
serinthia yesterday after work and they took me out for HuHot as repayment.
I'm not sure what other random bits I can put here, so I guess I'm done.
Here's a photo I shot on Monday with my phone. This is looking east along the Chicago river from the Franklin street bridge in front of the Merchandise Mart. That's just east of Wolf Point where the river splits into the north and south branches.
