Right now, I'm travelling into the city two days a week, which, by Metra, comes out to about $104 per month for the train. For a 30 day CTA pass, the cost is only $86, which will get me all over Chicago, every day of the month. I'm expecting to only rarely have to use my car to get around within the city, which will save gas money on top of that. I'm really excited about riding around on buses and trains.

Speaking of, I'm probably going to move to Rogers Park at the beginning of August. I'm going to have to make a list of what I need to bring with me. A lot of my stuff is going to be at my parents' house, and until I manage to get it all, with Moira in Racine too, though I'm making a little dent in that. I also learned that I am on call the last week of July and the first week of August, so I'll have to get the cellular modem from work in case I get a call while I'm driving between Kenosha and Chicago.

I hate being on call. At least I get bonus money out of it. That will give me more funds for my trip through Michigan, which is coming up. Since I have to be manning the phones on the weekend of the 7th and 8th still, I'm planning to get going on the evening of Friday the 13th. There's a good omen, huh? I'll drive up the Lake Michigan shore to Manitowoc and take the car ferry over. I'll visit No-LJ-James in Lansing and see the train museum up there. Then it's south to Allen Park to visit [livejournal.com profile] red_ceilidh for a while. I wish I could get out of here earlier than that. Maybe I'll ask today if anyone would like to trade for my second week of on call so I could leave a week earlier. I like extra money, but I really don't like being tied to a phone.

Michelle and I spent a few hours at ren faire on Saturday and had a lot of fun. She'd never been before, so we mostly wandered around and looked at stuff. I got some of my garb from Moira so I didn't feel too out of place. (Thanks for finding that stuff sweetie!) Afterward, we went out for some food at Tazino's. Sunday, I slept in nice and late, then caught up on stuff like money and laundry. I had some of Michelle's stuff in my car, and I brought it over to her place, where we decided to go swimming. Of course, once we got to the beach, it was overcast and (relatively) chilly, and the water was ice cold. Oh well.

We waded with Chichi the Chihuahua for a bit, then sat on a rock. I jumped off said rock and landed on another one, gouging my foot pretty badly. It wasn't very deep and I wasn't too concerned at first, but we soon decided I ought to go home and take care of it. With washed and bandaged foot, I wasted more time on the internet and got dinner. I chatted a bit with Michelle, who'd shown up to talk to Devin after his day at fair, but who wasn't back yet. Finally, I got to bed about 11. I should really stop staying up so late....

This morning, I read an hour and a half's worth of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. That was on top of forty minutes or so of it Michelle's place yesterday when she lent it to me. It's really engaging! I also like reading about places that I haven't been to recently, but that I have vivid memories of, like St. Louis and New York City. I'm looking forward to the trip home so I can read more of it. It might be a good lunch distraction too, if I can get away long enough. I'm here by myself today, so I've been kept fairly busy. I must look pretty goofy, hobbling around the office.
