stormdogSince I ended up not sleeping last night anyway, I took a dawn photo-walk around my neighborhood. It's getting cold out there! I...guess I'm ok with that. Funny, I think I said the same thing last year when the weather started turning.
The Broadmoor, Rogers Park

The Broadmoor Apartments began life in 1922 as a swanky hotel right off of the happening jazz scene along Howard Avenue. Guests would come back from the silent films showing in local movie palaces, perhaps right down the way at the 1917-built Howard, dressed in their finest to dance the night away at the Broadmoor's elegant ballroom.
Almost ninety years later, the Broadmoor still stands proud and beautiful in a vastly changed neighborhood. WBBM News Radio (whose call-sign originally stood for We Broadcast from the Broadmoor) no longer operates from the top floor, and the local theatres are long gone.
The old hotel itself is now ninety units of rental apartments and went through some pretty difficult times. But according to the 2008 issue of the localy Rogers Park magazine that the community council publishes, the current owners are working hard at getting rid of problem tenants and upgrading the facilities.
I found this building completely by accident a few days ago. It's gorgeous, and I decided to come back at dawn for photos. Unfortunately, the building across the street blocks morning light completely. But I do like the lighting in this pre-dawn shot anyway.
