Oct. 20th, 2010 01:34 pmI hardly know where to start when it comes to writing about the weekend I just spent with
danaeris. So I'll start with the best part (which isn't strictly related to just this weekend, but that's ok).
I've gotten together with Danaeris several times since meeting her at Dellacon in September. We enjoy each other's company quite a lot and have any number of interests in common. After a little discussion, I can state that we are dating, and will hopefully be seeing a lot of each other in the future. This makes me all squee. (Yes, that's an adjective. I say so!). I has a girlfriend!

Speaking of, the two of us went out to see Boobs and Goombas at the Gorilla Tango Theatre on Saturday night. Now, the review and photographs I linked to do a good job of summing up the experience (And are even neater in that we were there the night those phots were taken and the interview was done!), but I have to write about it too.
It was fantastic. Just awesome. Mario and Luigi come out on stage; women in, respectively, red and green with overalls and the most hilariously absurd fake mustaches. They did a dance number with each other that culminated in an almost-kiss before they each realized who they were dancing with. "Oh Luigi" lamented Mario in a wonderfully bad Italian accent, "you look-a like a beautiful lady!"
From there, the show alternated between pieces of dialog between the titular brothers (Seeing as how they were played by women, and this really is a show with breasts as an intentional focus, would it be terribly low-brow of me to comment that they put the 'tit' in 'titular'?) and levels of the game to get through, which basically involved women in Mario villain costumes doing stripteases. There were two ghosts who wore translucent shawls and unwrapped strips of fabric wound around each other's bodies as stage hands backlit them to show off their silhouettes. There was a chain-chomp, in black spiky leather and holding a chain-chomp head on a chain like a medieval weapon. There were goombas with their huge shallow mushroom-cap hats and goggles. There was a koopa, who danced while sliding various panels on her carapace open and closed to reveal her green-spangled undergarments.
Toad, as an exuberant little helper who supplied Mario and Luigi with their 'special items' (Woah, these fireflowers are good stuff man!), made an appearance, as did the princess herself and Bowser. Mario and Luigi end up in only their 'M' and 'L' emblazoned panties and pasties (Yes, even their pasties have the classic logos on them!) and the whole thing was just fantastically great. I highly recommend it.

We also made it to the Smith Museum of Stained Glass on Navy Pier. I've been there a couple times before, but I managed to find a section that was either new or, more likely, that I missed last time. There are some very pretty things there, some of which I even have pictures of that I have to post some time. It's also interesting to look at some of the pieces that came from buildings that are no longer standing and wonder what those buildings were like.
There were interesting food experiences to be had too. We went to the Eno Wine Room at the Fairmont Hotel (after an interesting adventure trying to get there by bus from Navy Pier). I had some very cool cheeses and some truffles that were, well, pretty decent. They didn't amaze me, but they were yummy. What did amaze me is that, trying a suggestion from Danae, I found some alcohol that I actually like! There have been a couple things in the past; I had some Ethiopian honey wine in Florida that I enjoyed, and Moira once gave me a little bit of Godiva Chocoloate Liqueur. Those were both good. But at Eno, Dana and I shared a glass of Trentino ice wine. I didn't know what to expect except that it would be sweet. It was, and there were so many other flavors too. It tasted much like other wine that I've tried here and there in some ways...except different too in ways that I can't quite qualify. But unlike other wines, and much to my surprise, I quite enjoyed it. Cheers for new experiences!
We also spent a while looking at info on admission and financial aid info for some schools online as I gather information about how I want to approach going back to school. But I'll write more about that in depth when I have more research done. To end a thoroughly great weekend, on Sunday we watched a couple of movies (Kinky Boots and the new Get Smart) that were both a lot of fun. We're getting together again two weekends hence to do dress-up as we contemplate costumery for Windycon, though a possibility of lunch this Sunday exists.

Speaking of this weekend, I'll be up in Kenosha as Super-Mechanic Juan works on Percy the Swift. My car is getting a new wheel bearing and exhaust parts in preparation for my drive to the Big Easy next month. I can't wait for another nice long road trip and to see some of the wonders of New Orleans!
I'm also in Kenosha today, since I realized at class last week that I'd left my Japanese book there at my parents' place. Oops.

I visited with
jimcyl on Thursday evening after class. I showed him some of the wonderful anthro Orangina commercials on Youtube. In return he showed me the "Never say no to Panda" campaign, which I was previously unaware of. Damn but these make me giggle like a lunatic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21mJh6j9i4

I have more things to write about, but they'll probably get entries of their own. For now, that about covers the social habits of the common Stormdog.
