Here's a quick response I wrote to a friend who expressed concern about my future employment prospects due to being openly polyamorous under my real name elsewhere on the internet. I feel like it's worth sharing here.

Thanks for the thought. It's an issue I'm aware of, but as I wrote about in Facebook for the last two national coming out days, I think it's very important that those people who have lives that exist outside the mainstream in ways that are both important to them and subject to discrimination to be open about their lives if they can be.
I think it's much the same as with encouraging gay and lesbian people to come out. When people encounter these concepts embodied in people that they know and work with and get along with, it alters their preconceptions of those concepts, hopefully in a positive way. Since I'm in a position where I can open write about the people I love and care about, I intentionally choose to do so, valuing the ability to be openly proud of my partners and create a positive impression of polyamorous people over the possible future repercussions of making it harder to find work.

It may be a bit short-sighted and/or idealistic, but I think I'm ok with that for now. *grins*
