(no subject)
May. 20th, 2004 04:41 pmWe finally talked about things I didn't know in class yesterday. I had a wonderful revelatory experience as the instructor got into some network and tcp/ip theory. I no longer have to have these strange James Bondian fantasies about the 'subnet mask' being some kind of shadowy tool for use by spies (and sysadmins...). We did conversions of IP addresses and subnet masks to binary and talked about how they work and relate. Definately the most fun I've had yet. I can't wait for the network+ and security+ courses. *grins* Today we're finally going to be opening up a computer. Once again, it's something I've done a great deal of, as is most of this class, but that's ok. I (and another guy there who's a robotic and electrical engineer, really interesting guy who closed his eyes to look up graphs in his head while we were talking about high voltage device theory; he knows a great deal more about it than I do and I rather like him.) even seem to know a number of things that the instructor does not. (One of my contributions last night was the mention of PCI express, since he hadn't mentioned it as a bus type. The instructor had never heard of it.) Regardless, I like the instructor, who is doing a good job dealing with people of widely varied ability and expereience, and it's a lot of fun.
I miss seeing my raccoon girl though. I am so looking forward to the weekend.
