I picked up a portable MP3/WMA capbable disc man and am now listening to 6 to 8 CD's a day at work. I could review them, but that would probably come to lots of instances of me saying "That was ok." It passes the time anyway, and that's good. Yesterday I went through 6 They Might Be Giants albums. Today was a double CD Ani DiFranco set, two Melissa Ethridge CDs, part of a double CD set of Ella Fitzgerald (I liked the blues/ballad disc but stopped the swing disc halfway through; I guess I just don't like swing), and most of The Crash Test Dummies "A Worm's Life". At this rate I'll go through our whole CD collection in a month or less I estimate. That's why I got one that playes MP3's...

Yesterday, at lunch, I went out to my car. There was a wind blowing and I opened both car doors to allow air to flow through the cabin and across my body. I laid back as much as possible in the driver's seat and looked at the copse of trees across the way from the lot, in K-Mart's back yard. I watched the branches sway in the wind. I watched the thousands of leaves flutter and shimmer in the as the wind brushed them. I found myself trying to recapture an odd moment I had in college; I was standing and looking at a tree when, quite unexpectedly, I had the strangest feeling of unity with that tree. My hands felt very much like they were tree limbs, stretching out to gather the air. It was a fascinating experience that I can't describe any better withouth a great deal of effort and it vanished as swiftly as it had come. It did not return yesterday, but I did spend about 20 minutes just meditating on the leaves and thinking about a comment made by a friend of [livejournal.com profile] foreignlegion about the way trees look to a blind man. He called them 'sound engines', imagining what someone who can't see could learn and feel about it through it's sounds. I got rather lost in myself and managed to really relax. I need to practice that more.
