Random Bits
Jan. 14th, 2014 10:46 pmI love Bulk Rename Utility (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php) so much! I use this tool *all the time* for my photos. I need Posi or Danae to teach me to write RegEx so I can do *even more* with it.
I just finished the last of the chocolate bar Danae gave me on her last visit. It was by Vosges, a Chicago-based chocolatier who make some wonderful things. This was their Red Fire Bar, dark chocolate with ancho and chipotle peppers and cinnamon. It has a wonderful array of flavors.
On the subject of Latin American-inspired chocolate, I hope when I'm in Chiapas I might be able to find some xocolatl. It's a cocoa drink that's spicy and bitter, as it long-predates refined sugar. I want to try it!
On the subject of Chiapas, I ordered a battery grip for my camera. It's an Asian knock-off that saved me $100 over the OEM one; hopefully it will be free of issues. It allows me to use AA batteries as well as the proprietary rechargables, which I'm assuming I won't be able to recharge in a rural separatist village.
I'm also thinking about ways to make my camera look less valuable, and thereby less a target for theft. A photojournalist who's site I was reading some time ago wrote that he puts packing tape or duct tape all around his camera body and dirties it up, kind of making it look like an old film body. It's hard for me to get myself to intentionally uglify my camera, but it is the action I'm leaning toward. It makes a lot of sense.
And on the subject of photography,Deer Dear
whitetail; here's a picture particularly for you! He's a giant metal deer who lives near the Illinois state capitol! I met him on my trip in July of 2012. The light doesn't really show him off to best effect, but he was still a fun distraction from shooting the neo-classical architecture of the capitol itself.
