After my dad told me about bit torrent while I was last in Wisconsin, I went out and downloaded it. I looked at the site he introduced me too, www.suprnova.org, and found so much stuff there that I want to have copies of. Gigs upon gigs. But I began with a series that's very close to my heart. I watched it with my family when it first aired and it was just so good. It was something that we all got lost in everytime a new episode aired. Through the course of today and the day before, I've watched the first half of the first season, eleven episodes worth, and I got lost in them all over again. I haven't felt so immersed in something since before I can remember. Maybe when I was playing Final Fantasy VII for the first time...

Yesterday I sat and watched on my computer as I chatted and finished up ebay pictures and copy. Today, I packed up the bunch of stuff that sold so it's ready to go and after that, I just sat and watched the rest of the episodes. This show is so good in so many ways that I'm sure my writing is not up to describing it. There are all the things that make a good show and even more of the things that make a great one. Not just the technical perfection; the meticulously well planned plot, a level of subtle foreshadowing unheard of in a television show, the makeup, the effects, the exceptionless strong acting: but more important even than that are all the intangibles. This was a commentary on the human condition. The heights of love and the depths of hate. The depths we can fall to when we forget our past and the heights we climb toward and never quite grasp; the heights that we always keep reaching for and that, in themselves, keep us reaching. There is so much profound wisdom on so many topics. Beauty that is at times spiritual, at times breathtaking, at times heartbreaking. It is a reminder of what we humans struggle for and why, and what happens when we give in to the darkness that touches all of us in one way or another.

I miss television like Babylon Five.

One of the reasons I'm downloading it is that Andrea has never seen it. I have such beautiful memories of watching it with my parents; I hope now that I can share it with her and create memories of our own.

I just have to finish downloading the last 38.3 gigabytes of it. That should only take a week and a half or so.

I'm going to figure out how to burn them all to VCD so we can watch them out in the living room on the DVD player we have which supposedly supports that format. Is there anyone else out there who'd like to come have a B5 party with us? There must be some people who read this who are fans...
