I tried so hard not to fall asleep when I got home today. I totally stayed away from the bed, electing to remain in the living room and continue the cleaning I did yesterday (got the major floor space in the living room plus the couch cleaned up!)
I was just awoken from my sleep, legs tucked under the couch and head on arm, by
wooisme calling from work to ask about plans for the night. *sigh* I hate working so early. I wonder if I'll get a different shift when they move me to full time.
Anyway, here's the entry I wrote at work today.
The belated update for my birthday weekend:
I need to once again state just how much I love and appreciate my mate.
She made the weekend wonderful. *kisses the raccoon grrl*
We went out early (relatively) on Saturday to take care of my step-dog.
Though I was still feeling kind of sick and couldn't romp around outside
with Kuma as I usually do, it was great to see him again. Kuma is my
kind of dog; big, friendly, and energetic. I love getting the chance to
spend a few minutes with him even though the mold in the house was
horrendous in my current condition.
After finishing up in Grosse Pointe, we cruised an area thrift store and
the mall on 8 mile on the edge of Grosse Pointe. Though lacking in the
intriguingly seedy quality I had, based on Andrea's description, been
expecting (apparently they've renovated since she was there) it was
still a worth-while trip to see the carved stone lion that Andrea used
to climb on. Though it's fenced off with conformance ropes now (their
only effectiveness is based on people conforming to expectations that
they won't be crossed), my sweetie tells me that on several occasions
she clambered up on top of the lion's giant spherical stone hair-do.
She must have been so cute!
Following our mall excursion, we repasted at the Chinese buffet in the
little strip mall on Gratiot that we visit with some frequency. I am of
the opinion that, were you to take the best aspects of an arbitrary (but
large) number of Chinese buffets, you could create one of the best
Oriental food experiences ever! As it is, though Andrea is of the
'quality over quantity' sort, I love visiting Chinese buffets
to discover whichever particular item is the shining star among the
supporting firmament of the the rest of the menu. At this buffet, it's
those little fried seafood cakes they make. They are an addiction.
Mmmm, heavenly!
After that we had intended to head home and take care of a few household
duties. Andrea, however, really wanted to make the most of the weekend
and asked me to do the Gratiot thrift store circuit with her. I
acquiesced with very little arm-twisting required. "Twist my arm. Ow.
Ok."
On the way north to the thrifting zone, we stopped at the pet store. We
had to; it was kitty adoption day! Andrea couldn't decide which one
she'd want to bring home but I quickly found the one for me; Abecrombie.
One of the largest cats I've ever seen and still not quite full grown, I
think he will rival the diabetic Maine Coon I used to house-sit for,
Max. Maximum Cat was such a sweetie, and Abecrombie seemed to be of
similar temperament, placidly curled up on the floor of his cage as
finger poked and petted him. The fact that he's long-haired too was the
deciding factor. I've always wanted a long-haired cat. Maybe when we
have more room someday we'll find one.
We stopped at the used movie and game store next to the pet shop as well
where I found a copy of Resident Evil: the Director's Cut and Andrea
picked up Hardware Wars, the special edition Monty Python and the Holy
Grail, and a three DVD set of the BBC Chronicles of Narnia. The last
particularly is something I've always wanted. They will be fun to share
with my sweetie.
Among the swag we brought back home from our subsequent vists to,
respectively, Salvation Army, Value World, and the Sunshine Thrift
Store, were a really nice wooden drum with natural hide head (Andrea and
I can participate in drumming circles! Nifty!) and a big black rocking
chair that will give us more space in the bedroom by replacing the
recliner that's in there now. I have such a great time thrifting with
the raccoon girl. Finally, most of the day having been spent in
enjoyable pursuits, we headed home.
That evening, Andrea presented me with a beautiful hand-made birthday
gift. She gave me the most wonderful set of pony tail bands
that she had embellished with some wonderful buttons, both modern and
vintage. There are thirteen of them, and I love every single one! She
said that she was tired of me saying that, because I'm not a girl, I
don't get to wear any pretty things in my hair so she made some for me.
I've been wearing a different one everyday since she gave them to me and
whenever I think about what I'm wearing in my hair it just reminds me of
how happy she makes me and how lucky I am! My mate is awesome.
That evening, we went out to the Kuhnenn Brother's brew-pub (Dragonmead was
very full) and played a game of Scrabble. Though Andrea said the people
at the other end of our table were giving us strange looks (I didn't
notice, but I'm pretty oblivious) we had a great time sitting and
playing and talking. So much so that we did it again on Tuesday, though
at Dragonmead that time. We plan to be there every Tuesday evening;
come join us!
Sunday was even lazier. Having woken up too late for breakfast, we went
out for brunch (National Coney) and tried to decide what to do for the
rest of the day. After bandying ideas like driving to Detroit for the
DFT or just to take pictures of abandoned buildings, we finally decided
to just rent a movie or two, buy a little food, and go back home. I
played the couple of games I'd rented as Andrea did a bit of ebay stuff.
As the evening wore on, Andrea began cooking 'the pizza of love'. Just
for my birthday, Andrea made me a home-made pepperoni and blue cheese
pizza with extra (mozzarella) cheese. Mmmm, pizza of love is delicious!
It was followed by small portions of cheesecake of love (brownie
cheesecake, store-bought but still very good). She insisted on having
some sort of birthday cake-like substance. My sweetie is so good to me.
*grins*
We started watching a movie we'd rented after returning home; Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. We didn't finish it that night; we got
tired and went to bed. We watched the rest of it after work on Monday.
This was an oddly creepy movie not least because of the occasional
striking similarity to some aspects and experiences of Andrea and I.
Great movie; I recommend it highly. Maybe one of us will write about it
at more length some time.
I guess that's about it except to note that I've lost the keys to the
padlock on our basement storage room and the key to our
mailbox. I feel like a massive idiot over this. I thought I had locked
them in the storage room but after taking the lock apart and looking, I
couldn't find them. I'm hoping they turn up soon. I'm going to have to
get a copy of that mailbox key made and hacksaw my lock off otherwise.
I can wait on the padlock; I just keep unbolting the bolt from the door
to get in (real secure, eh?) but I'm going to need that mailbox key
soon...
More later!
