Texas Pictures, Round Two

stormdogIndependence Chapel at the Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth is a little overwhelming. Coated in Italian marble and filled with larger-than-life sculptures of United States founding fathers, the building feels more like a classic nineteenth-century state capitol than a mausoleum.

I visited this playground just to see the giant monster slide. It's exactly like one I used to play on as a little kid. That one, in Mundelein, Illinois is long gone, and it was a thrill to see it's twin here in Texas.
The other vintage playground equipment was remarkable as well. The giant caterpillar-like object with two eyes on stalks over huge third eye-like opening was Lovecraftian in the deepening dusk.

We walked through the jungle area (in this greenhouse) primarily. There was a lot more to see that we did not get to.
Standing by a Traveler's Tree. This was too appropriate to pass up.

I don't know anything about plants, really. This one is spiky. Looks sharp.
Frog statues bookend a pond with lily pads outside the botanic gardens.
