Ok, maybe I do have a best friend. All my friends are my best friend. How's that?
My brother Jim and his girlfriend, Lara, were on the phone tonight. Apparently, Jim told her parents that I work for a gaming company, whereupon her mother said something to the effect of 'Isn't he worried about leaving himself open to....' and sort of trailed off. Seems she's a bit on the religious right. Hehe. Jim thinks she hates him too. To that, I joked "Our parents don't hate anybody. Everybody should be like that." Jim said "Yeah, why's your mom gotta be such a hater?" Then he burst out laughing. I finally got Jim to tell me what she said. "She can't help it. She's a christian." Ouch! That was painful! But I have to admit I laughed my tail off. That's so wrong, yet so right. I realize there are a lot of good christians out there, really. My parents and some of their friends are a few. But the bad ones get so much press. *sigh* Lara and I chatted online later. She said though she feels kinda bad about that joke, her mother has been known to use religion as an excuse to be judgemental. That's one of my problems with organized religion. It's too easily perverted. I pointed her at The Real Live Preacher's blog. She really enjoyed seeing it. That makes me happy. I like helping the good ones get some press too.
