What does a book addict do after a morning of unfortunate events (don't ask please)? He finds a used bookstore of course and buys a heaping stack of the contents!

I bought about fifteen books that caught my eye in the fantasy section, and I was only in there for perhaps ten minutes. I picked up four or five of the later Xanth books (by Piers Anthony) that I didn't have yet. I will admit to feeling that after book fourteen or fifteen the series became somehwat less interesting, but I have the first eighteen of them already and I'm too much of an obsessive collector to not try to complete a set that I have that much of already.

I also picked up the first four books of David Eddings five book 'Belgariad'. This is a wonderful old-school high fantasy piece, full of wizened sorcerers, beautiful queens, secret-shrouded prophecy, and ancient evils. I am still indebted to my dad for introducing me to it. I keep seeing single books on thrift store shelves, but I hate buying things piece-meal so when I saw so many together I snarfed them. They had several of the five book series that is the direct sequel, the Mallorean, but I passed on them. For now. I plan to return frequently; it's within easy lunch-break distance of work and it's a great bookstore!

So great, in fact, that I picked up two Doc Savage pulp novels at a dollar a piece. These are things that, while not exactly rare per se, almost never show up in thrift stores and tend to command four to five dollars when you can find them in a used book store at all. More Christmas presents for my dad! My dad is a Doc Savage fanatic and has bunches of these books, and it is because of him that I have a great fondness for the Man of Bronze and his unceasingly formulaic adventures. I'm pretty sure, though, that these are two he doesn't have. (Hey [livejournal.com profile] farmcat; I know you read this and I know he doesn't or I wouldn't write about it here. *grins* Just don't tell him.)

This is a really great store! I predict that I'm going to be there with some frequency in the future. It's small and cozy and has books stacked halfway up the walls and has seperate sci-fi and fantasy sections and has some first-editions and a shelf of hardcovers... I've finally found a place worthy of bringing the (surprisingly few) duplicates that Andrea and I found ourselves with after merging our collections. I need to post their name and address here and advertise for them. I highly recommend checking them out if you're in Dearborn.

I can't wait to go home. It's been a long day. I just got email from Andrea though; she makes everything better. *hugs the raccoon*
