I spent Friday night down at Benjie's apartment. We had a nice time watching animè and listening to music. It's always good to see friends.
I returned home Saturday morning, played a bit of DDR, and then ended up going out to a small con in Racine called Congenial when George, an old friend of my parents (who's known me since I was one I believe *g*) invited me with. I was nervous as usual when doing something that involves being social with people I don't know, but I had a very nice time. I played a few games with people in the con suite, then drove back down for the Saturday night game.
After that, a group of four of us returned to Congenial. That was fortunate for me as I managed to bump into the attending retinue of furries at some point in the night. I got to meet a few people I had heard of but never seen, and if I'm lucky I'll recognize them next time I see them. *sigh* I wish I was better at that.
The feeling of being among fen, especially those with shared interests, is difficult to put into words. It's like being among family. Despite my continuing nervousness, I intend to try to get to more small conventions when possible. They have a much more pleasant atmosphere than Gen Con, which is just too much for me. I had a really great time there.
I returned home at about 8 in the morning, napped for about half an hour, if that, and then left with my brother Jim and his girlfriend Lara for Chicago. Stopping first at Regency Mills to play some DDR, we then proceeded on to Syn's apartment where we briefly met Dave and Syn. We next went to The Alley where Lara bought a very cool dress, and finally we went to Benjie's, where he was having a birthday party. Jim and Lara got to meet more of my friends (Yay!) and everyone seemed to get along famously. I'm so happy that my friends like Jim and Lara, and that they like my friends. Life is good. Commenting on my friends and others on the way home, Lara commented that it seems like the gay/bi people she's met are the nicest, most accepting people on earth. Well, who am I to argue? Heh.
So, I finally arrived home at about 12:30 A.M. and am planning to go collapse into bed where I can catch up on sleep for this weekend. I am indescribably glad that I don't work tomorrow, because I am more exhausted than I can even begin to tell you.
(Yes, I split this entry up, now that I'm aware of the existence of secured posts. I actually have mixed feelings about that issue. On the one hand, I enjoy sharing my activities with anyone who might be interested. On the other hand, there's something to be said for a bit of privacy too, that of others even more so than my own.)
