Groups Fighting Structural Inequality?

Let's say, for the sake of conjecture, that there's a grad student who is angry and sad about numerous events in the world and that zie feels increasingly strongly motivated to personally do something to make something, somewhere, a little better, but that zie has little time to devote to doing so. Let's further say that this student wanted to initiate a small, recurring donation to a group that's working to address either the effects or the causes of some kind of structural inequity. Food and shelter for refugees; healthcare for people in violent regions; education for marginalized indigenous folks being forced into a market economy by expanding capitalism; there are so many to choose from. So damned many....
What organizations would such a student consider donating to? Doctors Without Borders perhaps? The Peace Corps? A local food bank? A national political cause like overturning Citizens United? Who has good records of taking financial donations and using them either to make life better for individuals, to support some kind of structural change toward equity, or both?
