Sep. 30th, 2016 08:06 amI biked 12 miles in the rain on Wednesday to finally get an Illinois driver's license at the Secretary of State. Though I'd checked the required document list, once I got there I found out that I didn't have the required documents. (It had to be specifically be a statement of benefits from an insurance company, not just a bill.) Yesterday, Danae came with me to sign an affidavit of residence for me and we got it done. I had to take a written test, and scored 100% on 40 questions or so. Whee!
Yesterday, the crew at the animal shelter all went out for dinner at a place called Candlelight Inn on Western in Chicago. They make the best, most garlicky garlic fries I've ever eaten; I'd go back just for the fries! Biking to the shelter, to the restaurant, and back home made for another ten miles or so. It feels really good to be doing more utility biking rather than just leisure biking. My identity as a bike commuter is important to me, and riding as transportation makes me feel more self-assured. I almost had to ask Danae to come save me when I realized at the restaurant that I'd left my wallet at home. I called her and arranged her bringing it to me, but one of the other volunteers covered me 'till next week and I called her back and told her she could stay at home.
