Fixin' Stuff!
Apr. 5th, 2017 11:31 pmIn Syracuse, I bought a set of cheap headphones at Big!Lots because they fit comfortably, entirely over my ears. It's hard to find headphones that don't squish some part of my earlobes and cause pain after a while.
They'd stopped working, and I was going to get rid of them on an electronics recycling trip. That trip never happened, and today I decided, if I'm going to start trying to work with electronics more, I might as well try and fix 'em. I dug them out of the back of the car and set to work.
I spliced on a replacement jack from a dead pair of Danae's headphones. The wires on both looked like they weren't even insulated, which confused me. Then I realized that they were just thinly coated in paint to prevent shorts. I cleaned them off with some fine sandpaper, connected them up with electrical tape, and I have comfy headphones again! Having comfy *good* headphones is too much to ask for right now, but I'll take comfy!
