Move time!
Picking up the trailer for yesterday was interesting. Andrea had reservered one and it was actually waiting there for us. This was a pleasant departure from the last time I rented a trailer; it was supposed to be waiting for me in Kenosha and I had to drive to Milwaukee to get it. Of course, what was also different was that this trailer seemed to be about the size of a large doghouse. Alright, I exaggerate, but it was much smaller than we expected. The one I got from -I think- budget two years ago, was about the same length and width, about 5' by 10', but was tall enough to almost stand in without bending over. The one from U-haul seemed to be about four feet tall and just felt small. I took a long look at it and decided that this was simply not going to be worth the effor and expense.
We went back into the store and asked about pricing for a truck. They were willing to let us rent a 14' moving truck instead of the trailer. The cost was about double, but we didn't have time to look for a bigger trailer at another company and the little trailer was just not worth it. But it's all good. We were hoping we'd fit enough in the trailer to avoid having to rent a truck, but knew we might have to anyway. This way, we have a bunch of space right from the start and we can get everything big out there in one trip. The 14 footer is just about the perfect size for what we need to move.
Then came the next change of plans. We were going to pack everything into the truck last night. Andrea was going to pack the Dakota in the morning and drive out early by herself to get her new car titled and I would take the truck out when I got home from work. This changed when it got to be one o' clock and we had finally struggled the last of the furniture that mandated team work to get it down the stairs and out the door and we realized that there was a lot more packing to be done and we were both exhausted.
But again, it's all good. We're going to finish cramming every square inch of both trucks after I get home from work tonight and then we'll caravan out to the land of cheese and porn. We're bringing all sorts of goodies with us too.
In addition to sundry furniture, I have entirely filled the passenger seat of the big truck with a pile of entertainment-type electronics. VCR, DVD player, PS2, XBox, turntable, tape deck, 12-band stero graphic equalize (ahh, a thing of beauty), my nice stand alone radio reciever that I bought at the ham swap with
posicat two years ago, my four-way A/V input selector, and finally, my RCA CED vinyl movie player. Not to mention an entire office-type garbage can full of the various cables for all of it. I love my hardware. We're going to pack the TV in somewhere on this move too. The trip when all the computer stuff comes is going to be scary, in a beautifully geeky sort of way.
I feel like I've been doing so much writing lately! Not just for Livejournal, but for a couple of personal things and some email I need to send. I feel like I've been spending every spare moment at work between phone calls just sitting and writing. Honestly, I'm loving it. I really need to try to get back into writing fiction again. Somehow I will balance that in with the studying I need to do after the move. I love writing, I could just never seem to get beyond three or four pages of anything I started back when I was trying. I'm going to try again. I think I could really be good at it.
