stormdog: (sleep)

I finally finished and sent the electronic letters I've been trying to find time for since the beginnning of the weekend. It's funny how I often only have time for writing when I'm at work. I'm trying to get my head together about moving and resigning from my job and looking for a new one and other stuff that's confusing the doggy at the moment. I sent out a couple of requests for advice to a few people who may have insight gained from similar experience. It's been a long time since I've written one of those 'please pick my brain apart and tell me what you see' letters, but the nervousness that comes from awaiting a response is an old friend. I am lucky to have good friends to talk to, even if I don't do so nearly enough.

That done, I can get back to journaling. Not that there's a great deal new to talk about. I am zonked out today, having stayed up past my bedtime talking on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] wooisme and [livejournal.com profile] tincrash, but I'm glad I did. He may be coming by to see our move-in progress this weekend too, the which is coming along swimmingly if I may say so.

We got all of the major furniture into the new house over the weekend. The drive to Wisconsin in the modified F-350 we rented from U-Haul was an experience that I don't care to repeat any time soon, but we managed. We finally got on the road around noon on Saturday and by about 7:00 local time, we were heading east into Kenosha on Highway 50. My dad called just as we were getting into town and told us to meet him at our house. He showed up shortly thereafter with my mother, my brothers, and a significant chunk of their gaming group to help us unload.

I am so grateful to everyone who helped! Andrea and I really wore ourselves out trying to get that truck packed and I don't think we could have got everything out by ourselves, but with all the people we had it was done in about an hour.

Incidentally, I hope no one is offended that we didn't notify them that we were doing a big move. We hadn't originally planned to get a truck, and once we did we packed everything into it we possibly could. At that price, we are not doing it again...

The house is coming together and everything feels so happy and cozy! We have a big enough basement to keep all the disorganization down there and go through it bit by bit while keeping the upstairs clean and pretty, which I think will be good for both of our mental states. Whee! I can't wait to work on setting up the TV and entertainment center this weekend. I may bring a computer or two and a desk as well just to get that started.

The resignation went well. My manager was surprised but understood doing what one needs to for one's family. I didn't entirely explain the reasons behind the move (I indicated that Andrea had accepted a new job that we were moving to) but the truth, that it's for family reasons and we're moving where we need to be, is essentially unaltered. He did tell me that I've been doing really well and that they were expecting 'great things' from me. A couple other people have told me that they were expecting me to move to onsite soon. Well, that would have been nice, but we need to be where we want and/or need to be first. Then I can work on establishing a career.

I hope I can find something like I was doing here...
