I somehow stumbled into the idea of magnet fishing on the internet a few days ago. With with partial defrayment from the gift card I got from the library director for fixing the cable management issues (she's so great!) I'm buying a kit with rope and an 880lb (about 400kg) max pull magnet.

Imagine all the stuff there must be to pull out of the water around Chicago!

Besides, I've always wanted a stupidly powerful magnet.
