I'm going through the piles of books my grandparents gave me last month as I move them up to the library and I found a quote I had to share with you. This is from my copy of How to Design, Build, & Test Complete Speaker Systems.
"There is an old wive's tale that putting too much damping material in a box kills the speaker's high frequency response."
I read that sentence and just spent a few seconds trying to process it. I would love to meet the old wives who sit around their kitchen tables at Sunday tea-time talking about the fine points of acoustical speaker enclosure design. "Oh heavens Mildred, you just can't get true fidelity out of a three-way speaker enclosure without a premium cross-over network!". *snortles*
