Wonderful weather today. It was beautiful. I drove to work with my window down, just listening to the world going by outside my little metal box.

So it seems the United States is going to war. I couldn't pick up AM radio in the warehouse, but I was listening in the morning and on the way home. This is really crazy. I almost feel like it's World War II, what with trying to stamp out the use of any term relating to a country that doesn't share our governments views (i.e. 'Freedom Fries'). That just seems incredibly pointless and petty. Who are we to say we know what's better for a foreign government than they do themselves? If it's not in France's best interest to support a military action then they are doing the right thing in opposing it, regardless of the past history of our countries. The Dwarf, the friend of my parents whom I work with, seems to think it's all about economics. He seems to think that France won't fight Iraq because they'll start losing money on weapons sales to them. Me? I'll admit I have no idea about that. I never have followed or understood international politics. I just know I'm scared. What are we going to see next, internment of those with Iraqi/Middle Eastern ancestry, as we did to the Japanese? Oh, seems we've started on that already, haven't we? I have really heard enough rhetoric about the US being a force of good out to destroy evil. That God is on our side. Where does anyone get the idea that the divine being, be it in whatever form, is supporting a war in any respect? War is death. War is hell. As Bob Dylan said, "If God is on our side, he'll stop the next war." In war, the god/dess doesn't take sides. She just tries to help the survivors pick up the pieces.

Fog shrouded the landscape on the way home. Usually I love the fog. There's something mystical about the way it transforms the world into a place of mystery. Today, I found it unsettling. Scenery faded to shades of grey while lights far in the background winked perpetually in and out like will o' the wisps tricking travellers into danger. Color seemed to vanish from the land. The effect was almost apocalyptic.

25 days 'till I get to see Andrea again. That at least is worth smiling about.
