I decided tonight that I was going to plug my laptop into the spare monitor I have on my workbench for setting up and testing systems. I was tired of dealing with a tiny little LCD panel when I had a monitor sitting there unutilized. Unfortunately, I soon remembered why that monitor was largely unutilized. It didn't quite come to peering into the screen and trying to determine what the dark and abstract forms were, but it was pretty bad.
Then I remembered the monitor I'd found on the curb along with Andrea's computer a few months ago. I'd set up the computer for Andrea since it was faster than the one she had, but I just stuck the monitor in the garage figuring I'd play with it later. Today was later.
So I now have this nice seventeen inch monitor sitting on my workbench. The old one was fourteen or fifteen, so the eyestrain quotient is considerably reduced. Beyond that, the picture is bright and full and clear and just so much easier to work with! I will never stop decrying the wastefulness of our society, but I do love it when I can benefit from it. And believe me, I'll scavenge anything I can get. A perfectly good Pentium III and a 17" monitor for free; I'm pretty pleased with myself. And to Andrea for being the one who originally pointed them out, saying 'Hey Chris; there's some computer stuff on the curb across the street.' There are reasons that I love her...
