I had a really good time at the game party that my mate and I attended on Saturday afternoon and evening. Much better than I expected actually. I've realized that I really do myself a service in attending gatherings that are more suited to my ability to deal with them. Without loud music and smoky air assaulting my senses, I was far less anxious than I expected I might be. It helped as well that, shortly after arrival, I was drawn into a game of Empire Builder with a few other people. Though I didn't stay for the whole session of the game (honestly, I got a bit bored and wanted to go over and join my love where she was playing Apples to Apples with a few other folks), it was a nice way to start the evening.
So, as I said, I moved over to the living room after a time and sat to my sweetie's side as she played. There were a large number of people in the game so I decided to just sit in and watch as the game went on. I stayed in the corner, offered comments on Moira's hand, and listened to people talk. I wasn't pressed into dealing with anyone more actively than I cared to and I could really concentrate on enjoying being around the group. I'm really looking forward to going back for the next party. I just wish we'd started going there earlier.
The third event of the evening was the game of Dark Tower I got into with
crim_ferret and his housemate who I hope will forgive me for not remembering his name. It took a bit of coaxing to get the old motor to start up correctly, but once it did it ran just fine and it was lots of fun to have people interested in playing since I've been looking for a group to try it out with for some time. At their request, I'll even bring it again next time we get together.
Beyond that, there was good food and the contentment that comes from being around like-minded, friendly, (and, incidentally, rather attractive) people. Though I don't really know any more names and faces than I did when I started (I felt so awkward hugging people goodbye when I had no real clue who they were), Andrea and I got to talk with
anarchist_nomad for a bit and I got several comments on my toenails, which made me glad I'd taken the time to paint them in the car on the way down. Thank you for putting up with the smell my love! *smooches*
I guess that's about it. I hope the other attendees enjoyed having me around as much as I enjoyed being there.
