I've finally got my checking account straight in Quicken, thanks to some help from my mother. I was trying to enter and categorize everything back through March, the earliest that I could get online records from my bank. However, the effort of categorizing and reconciling that many transactions proved to be more difficult than the end result was worth, particularly after I realized that my bill paying was probably sporadic enough that it wouldn't give me the sort of solid base data for projection of future expenses that I'd like anyway.
So I started with the beginning of last month and went from there. I'm happy with that. I at least have a base idea of things like how much we spend on groceries so I can try to start putting together the budget that i've wanted to do for two years now. I also know exactly how little money I have now. Whee!
Friday was spent helping a couple other people save some money as I replaced the serpentine belt tensioner on![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
todd_riverden's and serinthia's car. Serin tracked down some instructions from a website, the two of us stopped at Sears for tools and Advance for the part, and then Todd drove it over so we could put it in my garage in case it rained. The procedure went pretty smoothly apart from a 10mm socket vanishing briefly into a trans-dimensional void, and the car seems to be happier now. I'm glad I could help out. Though they offered to buy me dinner, I think the set of jackstands they bought me is plenty of compensation, really.
Saturday was another excursion to the shire of Bristol, where we got to meet a few more friends. It was the day of the furry outing, so I was happy to bump intoposicat and Tybis (does he have a Livejournal? I'm not sure.). Tybis graciously let me fondle his equipment; the Canon digital SLRs are beautiful things. One day, they will be mine. In the meantime, Posi and I are hoping to lure Tybis down into the drains under Kenosha for some exploration and photography.
Also met a couple other furs whose names I can't recall, though that's not atypical for me. One of them was from Holland and was quite interesting to listen to. I also briefly metsalexa at Faire Pair. If we hadn't been involved in catching up with previous work-mates, I would have talked to her more. Sorry!
Andrea and I spent a while talking to a name from her past: her ex-boyfriend and his new wife came to visit and she caught up with them for a few hours. They seem like interesting folk.
Let's see, what else?tincrash and Tony were there. We met up with them from time to time through the day. I'm trying to think of what else to say, but, unlike last week, things were pretty low-key. Not that that was a bad thing; quite the contrary. It just makes for boring reading.
After faire, we accompanied the furries out for dinner at the Golden Corral, an instance which is in my Quicken transaction register with the nicely alliterative notation food after faire with furries'. *giggles*
Andrea and I have a candle-lit dinner planned for tonight. That was one of the rewards to myself for getting the downstairs all cleaned up, and will be the first one we've had since moving! Andrea has some fish fillets stuffed with scallop and shrimp, and she's making a salad and some biscuits to go along with them. It's going to be a late dinner (it's ten after seven now and the sun is only just beginning to set), but will, I think, be well worth the wait.
In the meantime, I think I'll look at Nihongo Resources a bit more. I haven't spent any time on learning Japanese lately, and I want to get started on basic grammar and such before I lose the Hiragana that I so carefully crammed into my brain. Maybe some DDR and a shower first though. Yeah, that sounds nice....
