Sep. 16th, 2006 08:50 pmWe found a car today! We test drove it last night at about eight o' clock, got it checked out by a mechanic today about one, and promptly purchased it. Though a little bit bigger than we would have liked (It's a '94 Mercury Sable), it's in pretty good shape and, according to the Car-X Man, pretty well taken care of. There are a few things to get fixed on it, but there shouldn't be a problem in it getting us through the winter and into Spring, when we'll be in a much better position to look into getting something like an itty-bitty Volkswagen, or Volvo, or Saab, that better fits our vision. Earlier today, I drove the Escort into the driveway where it will stay until it goes away in whatever manner that turns out to be. I couldn't believe I had been driving this car on a sixty mile round trip to work. I was almost afraid it wouldn't even make it up the drive!
This is a tremendous relief for both of us. Though it took a chunk of change out of our bank account, our major expenditure of the year (at least it better be!) is out of the way and I can plan our budget out much better. That combined with our soon to be doubled income is making the future look very bright. *happy sigh* It took long enough.
So we celebrated with an extended session of what I shall euphemistically call "sweaty snugglebunnies". That might even get it's own post for those of you who've asked to be on that filter. Although I hardly ever manage to write anything for that filter, so we'll have to see.
I'm busy rebuilding my brother's computer while my mate is out picking up a couple things for a late dinner. Windows crashed and ate his boot.ini file, and while trying to fix that, I've determined that his hard drive might be bad. Well, I popped a new blank in from my pile of old 10GB drives and am putting an installation of Windows on it. Once that's done, I'll see how much I can recover from the old drive. Once all of that's done, I'm going to use the original system recovery disks that are now on their way to me from Dell to reinstall XP again, but this time on the SATA drives that my plain-jane OEM disc won't see without tracking down all of the drivers for the controller. Since the computer actually still had some warranty time on it from my company when I brought it home for my brother, I can just call up Dell, give them the necessary information, and have them ship me new CDs. There are a few advantages to working tech support. I may call and have them send me a new CD-ROM drive too; this one's more than a little noisy.
I have more things I need to write about. Hopefully I'll get to them soon. I also want to do some cleaning, and get together with
posicat tomorrow too. Always so much to do! That's ok; things are on the upswing. I just have some catch up to do.
