As Andrea and I were lying abed on Sunday night, my mind was wandering. She and I both have good, decently paying jobs. With a little bit of luck and planning, by Spring we're going to be on our way to being caught up on finances. We'll be able to afford things beyond the basics. The downstairs was clean, and this weekend we're going to get the upstairs done too; I'll feel like I have time to devote to things beyond necessities. I thought about what I want to do with these new found surpluses.

I'd like to go to school. Not full time. At least, not until Andrea is done with her schooling in a year or two, or however long that takes. But maybe a couple nights a week for a few hours. Something I'm really interested in. While we talked, I realized how much I wish I could have another chance to go to school. I'd do so much better now. It's hard to manage in college when you're too scared to talk to any of your professors or classmates. I want to go back and do it right. Maybe get a degree in computer science and do some programming. I loved programming and would like to get back to it.

But for now, I'll settle for just a night class or two. If there was anywhere around here that I could learn Japanese I'd be on it in a heartbeat. Not only have I wanted to learn Japanese forever, but being proficient in it would do two things for me. First, there's a chance of finding a very nicely paying job should someone happen to need a Japanese-speaking computer techy. Not common, but it does happen. Second, if things in the states ever get crazy enough that I'd consider leaving, being an English speaker gives me a useful skill I could use to become a Japanese citizen. I'd just have to teach English. But, near as I can tell, there isn't. Instead I'm thinking of an electronics class at Gateway. I need some more electronics knowledge if I'm going to build my coil gun, and beyond that, I'm envious of [livejournal.com profile] posicat's degree in it. I want to understand my electronics better. I want to be able to solder something actually useful onto a breadboard. I want to be cool. *laughs* Beyond that, I think I miss school. A little bit. Purely the academic side of things, but I do miss it. I honestly loved my time at New Horizons. I was in school with fellow geeks. Maybe Gateway could be like that. I'm going to check on their Spring schedule, to give me something to think about.
