Back to purgatory...

The theatre was in the condition I would have expected it to be in, if I hadn't been swayed by my dad telling me 'Oh, it should be fine. All you have to do is plug in the lights and we'll use what was up for the last show.' Ya know, my dad is a great guy, and he's a wonderful director, but I really need to stop just taking his word on technical matters. There are spots with far too much light, spots with almost no light, lights doing nothing but lighting up the black curtain which serves as the backdrop and making giant bright spots on it, and best of all, one light far downstage right which seems to be positioned very nicely for lighting someone standing on stage there, provided he's about nine feet tall. It's splashing a big pool of white almost all the way up the stage right wall. Was the Jolly Green Giant in the last show?

People have completely screwed up my nice neat setup in the light booth too, but I honestly expected that. I've got things together enough to run a show. It did occurr to me tonight that I should donate one of my PII Vectras to the theatre before I move. They still don't have a computer in the light booth, I still have one I'm not using right now (in face, I was wishing I had it there tonight), and I'll have one fewer thing to move. I just wish I knew for sure that the people who work there are competant enough to take advantage of having a computer for tech stuff. I love that theatre, and there are some great people there, but I have to admit that, on the whole, the 'we know what the hell we're doing' factor is pretty low over there.

I was conscious of this possibly being the last time I work at the Rhode Opera House while I was there. I thought about it a little bit, but... it didn't seem to weigh on me too heavily. Maybe I was just too busy to contemplate it. I'll miss that theatre, and I'm sure I'll be back from time to time, but I'm just at a point where I have to move on. I have someone in my life more important to me than anything. I just hope the theatre can get along without me. They seem to have been doing at least passably so far, and I wish them the best...

So I'm going in early tomorrow to work on resetting lights. Then I've got the performance at about 2 which should run about 2 hours give or take. I can deal with that. I'll file miniatures most of the time I expect. I did that tonight too. It makes me some extra money (under the table too. Woohoo!) and gives me something to do while watching two dozen or so kids between elementary and high school do kids pieces and excerpts of Shakespeare. With scripts in their hands. *shakes head* Well, all I can say is beak a leg...

Good music on the way home.
