Sep. 16th, 2003 08:45 pmThese last couple days have been interesting. Monday night I got an unexpected phone call from The Dwarf who was down at Kenzer and Company. He and Brian, the V.P., were doing some unloading at a storage facility in Waukegan and were looking for some help for the night. I drove down and helped put shelving units together and unload a truck. I was also told at that point that, should I be available, they could also use some help with assembly and unloading in the morning there. Thinking this would be a nice way to see a few of the people I worked with again for a bit, get some exercise, and even (the really good part) get paid for it, I happily agreed. This morning I showed up at the storage place and offloaded yet more boxes. Somewhere along there, The Dwarf told me that the Kenzerco people had realized that the whole moving thing was probably going to take a whole lot longer than they thought it was and that I have work 'till the end of this week and possibly longer if I want it. I was thusly unexpectedly in Illinois most of today schlepping boxes around. Hey, this works for me. The downside of this is that I didn't get out to my schools to get my transcripts that I need to complete my resume to send out to prospective employers in Michigan. Gahh. Somehow I'll get this all juggled satisfactorily. I'll probably end up getting up really early one day and running out to the schools before driving down to the Kenzer facilities.
To make things more interesting, a message was left on the answering machine today while I was out working from Manpower about a job. They said they had something for me starting tomorrow, and that I should call back in the next fifteen minutes or so if I wanted it, despite the fact that they never seemed to have time to give me skill tests. *shrug* That's all rather confusing, but I'm working now anyway, so I guess things are good.
In other exciting news, I thoroughly cleaned out the trunk of my car when I got home. Wasn't as bad as I thought, despite having to take out the entire original trunk lining which was thoroughly soaked with oil, smelled really bad, and was probably a real fire hazard. When it's dry tomorrow I'll line it with a big piece of scrap carpet I have laying around. Oh, and I have Dark Side of the Moon on LP now. Woot! Just need a turntable to play it on...
