Jan. 3rd, 2004 02:11 amI spent, between today and yesterday, about 8 hours organizing our book collection. All the sci-fi/fantasy paperbacks are together on their own shelves, all the hardcover/unusual sci-fi/fantasy has another shelf, all the non-fiction has a section, historical, modern, or speculative fiction has a section, there's a classics section, a children's section, a philosophy/spiritualty section, a myth/folklore section, an erotica section... *smiles* There is a feeling of satisfaction that's difficult to explain that I get when I look at my steelcase shelves with 5 rows of alphabetized paperbacks reflecting a myriad of colors on the metallic black of the shelves that is really enjoyable... Earlier this evening, as we sat in geekland (where the paperbacks are) together, I looked at the wall and said 'If we were going to be here permanently I would buy lumber and build paperback sized shelves to cover that entire wall." I gestured expansively. "And then," I smiled "We'd fill them." She just smiled back and said "Yes.". One of the many, many reasons I love her...
My raccoon is feeling better I think. She's been sleeping a lot the last several days and is still getting over her cold. She was laying on the couch last night, sleeping, with the TV on. I let it go on as I worked on books at around 2 or 3 in the morning since she likes the background noise. At some point, I realized that the show that was on was an episode of Jerry Springer featuring racist midgets who've formed their own chapter of the KKK. This was, for lack of a better term, rather strange. *shrug* In any case, I'm so glad she's starting to feel better. I've been stressed 'bout her.
I realized, as I was out buying dinner for the both of us (she's not really up to going out and we don't have much food in the apartment at the moment), that my credit union card thingy is basically a credstick. It acts like a credit card but draws directly from my bank account. Plus, it leaves all my personal identification information for whoever needs to look it up at any later point. When I first read a Shadowrun book, probably before high school, and encountered the idea of a credstick, I thought it was rather neat and rather disturbing at the same time. I also figured it wasn't worth worrying about since that sort of technology was certainly decades away. Well, it's basically here. Welcome to the future. Try to enjoy your stay. On an almost completely unrelated topic, Andrea has introduced me to coney island places in general (we don't have them back in the land of cheese and porn) and chili-cheese fries in particular. Dinner was good.
My dear one and I are going to try to start doing hardcore ebaying at this point, trying to empy out our storage locker in the basement. . Especially now that it seems like one of our neighbors has had his broken into. Some of our co-denizens of this complex are not exactly great people it would seem. Anyway, I even have my own ebay about me page now. I have this strange difficulty in reconciling the idea of ebay/paypal money with real, actual, money. I keep honestly feeling like I'm just collection points in some kind of game as I see our paypal accounts grow in size. It is kind of a fun game though. And it's a game my dear one seems to be very good at.
I have to mail a bunch of stuff tomorrow and I still need to pack some ebay stuff. I'm off to do so. Be well!
