Jan. 4th, 2005 07:27 amUpdating again 'cause it seems like something I ought to be doing while I'm sitting here with time. Forgive any incoherency to come; I'm quite tired.
Andrea and I were up 'till about one o' clockyesterday today. We were over at Darren's house 'till about midnight.
wooisme (I keep typing that as woosime and having to go back and correct it. I just note that because 'woozy me' seems particularly apropos this morning) and I picked up a pizza (using trade dollars) and dropped by so that I could do laundry again while they sorted out lots of pictures and Christmas ornaments, deciding who gets what and what there needs to be copies made of. Soon after arriving, I went back out for another pizza and an order of cheese bread. I should know our appetite by now, really...
My drive to work yesterday and today have been interesting. As I got out of the shower Monday morning and wiped my glasses off with my towel, the frame snapped and a lens fell out. My glasses are probably about five years old if not older, so material failure was swiftly becoming inevitable I suppose. Still, the timing has certainly left a lot to be desired. A sixty mile round trip done in the rain, one-handed while holding a piece of plastic in front of my right eye with the other is not my idea of a good time.
After an abortive attempt Monday morning, I continued to apply glue liberally to the frame and lens in an attempt to make the thing workable. I succeeded and had wearable eye-wear for a few hours; they broke again while packing up clothes at Darren's to head home again. *sigh* At lease I got to play Final Fantasy IX for a few hours first while lying on the bed and waiting for the laundry (I packed up and hauled my PS2 over there along with the various pieces of clothing).
Today of course, I had to drive to work again in the same manner, albeit with even less sleep than I usually have. Having made it to work with life and limb intact, I'm probably scaring my coworkers by hunching vulture-like over my keyboard with my eyes about six inches away from the monitor screen. It's funny how much bigger the thing looks that way, though the twinges in my back and shoulders aren't nearly so amusing.
Andrea is going to make an appointment with one of the local optometry places that accept trade to get me an exam and some new glasses. I've needed new glasses for a while but the needs has never been pressing enough, so the newly clear vision will be really nice. The two weeks of dealing with broken glasses will not be. My current idea for a solution: Solder and super glue didn't work (the solder just beads off the steel), so I 'm thinking of sewing the lens on. I'll drill several 1/32 holes around the edge of the lens and use a needle and thread to lash it onto the frame. That'll get me by for a while I betcha.
In other news, my emulator system is set up next to the television and plugged into my little switch box. I have hundreds and hundreds of old console games at my disposal to be played right on the TV! I love it! Will someone come over and play with me? *looks up with wide puppy eyes*
Though work is finally starting to slow down again (it's been better than yesterday but quite busy all morning) it's just kind of draining me. I want to go home and get a little sleep before I start dealing with haning up a week and a half's worth of laundry.
