Mar. 11th, 2005 12:28 pmYou know it hasn't been one of your better weeks when, having lost track of what day it is at an unspecified point in the past, you ask your mate whether it's Friday or not and, having recieved an answer in the affirmative, start crying out of sheer relief. I've still got 8 hours of sitting at a desk talking to people to deal with before I can relax while my brian is out there somewhere around Wonko the Sane's (To paraphrase the holy book, "The situation has improved. Wonko is now only 3.2 million light years from Earth. Please try calling again in a while."), but knowing that it's only one day instead of two until I can really try to relax is heartening.
What I really want to do this weekend is collapse on an unspecified piece of soft furniture with Andrea and a large number of friends to snuggle with. (Hmm; that sounds a lot like Congenial. No wonder I love that con.) Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen for several reasons, not least of which is that there are no pieces of soft furniture in our apartment that are not covered by a mound of miscellaneous stuff. Oh wait; we do have the bed. There's no TV in there, but the daytime music on NPR is pretty relaxing... *silly grin* Err, anyway, the other problem would be that we just have too much to do.
We need to find a car soon. If at all humanly possible, we need to find a car this weekend. I called a guy selling a reasonbly priced '91 Volvo yesterday to try to schedule a time to go out and see it. Andrea would love to have a Volvo and they are really reliable cars. Unfortunatly, he still has not called me back. One would think that, in light of the possibility that I may potentially be giving this person lots of money, that he would return a phone call in a reasonable amount of time.
Need to work on my résumé a bit too. I got some really useful advice from
stormgren that I've been too busy to get back with him on (Thank you!) and I want to change a couple thing around. Maybe at
rennie_frog's advice I'll run it by
unclevlad as well.
We also have to start packing in earnest. Considering Andrea will be gone for a bridal shower most of the day on Saturday, I'm probably going to be doing a bunch of that during the day. I may get up really early and run up north to where I used to work making nozzly widgets and raid their dumpster for boxes. They almost always have a ton of beautifully sized (Lots of small metal components means plenty of boxes that are great for books and other dense, compact objects.) cardboard boxes. There were a couple pieces of dead machinery there. Photos of them in the light of dawn would be a nice bonus for the trip.
Andrea and I spent a while talking to
tincrash after getting home last night. He's going through really rough times with his job and related issues and I worry about him. Tin; know that we're thinking of you and worrying about you and are there for support. I just wish we were closer and could do more.
I'm worried about Andrea too. She's really stressed and a large part of that is a direct consequence of the accident I was in. I hope I can at least partially make up for it by being there through the fallout.
Not everything is bad. Andrea and I had a good time going out for dinner with
girtygrin,
nikvulper, and
eddiddiums at Arbor Brewing Company. After all the stress of the week I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and was very quiet at first. I even had to ask Andrea to let me sit on the inside of the booth against the wall so that open space on all sides of me wouldn't be making me nervous. After a while I managed to calm down a bit though and even enjoyed spening some time at their apartment afterward.
Well. Lunch is over. Time to get back on the phones.
