This will be a good week. After last week, things could only get better, right? I will try and write more once we aren't swamped over here (Monday always sucks) but I at least feel, mostly, hopeful.

Good morning to you my friends! How are you?

At lunch today, over reheated pizza and three-cheese bread from Papa Romano's (Using up all of our trade dollars and moving to Wisconsin will certainly give me less excuse to keep going out and buying bad food. But I digress), I called my credit union to find out about the loan pre-approval I'd applied for when Andrea and I went in on Thursday. I was supposed to hear back that day or the next and I never did, so we were getting a little concerned.

The good news is that I was approved for two thousand, five hundred dollars. The bad news is that, before they will accept the cute little car we want to buy as collateral, we have to show proof of full-coverage insurance. Since that's not going to happen, we're going to have to pay cash for her. Well, phooey. It wasn't what we had hoped for, but we can afford it. Just means a smaller cushion when we move which means I have to find a job that much sooner. I fully intend to do everything I can to make sure that isn't an issue anyway.

Speaking of which, I applied at Best Buy in Racine online yesterday. Same old application process, same old list of 50 questions to weed out psychopaths, schizophrenics, or (horror of horrors) people who don't like to be around people. Note to Best Buy: why do you people think we geeks get into dealing with hardware as opposed to other professions? Here's a hint; it's not because of our all-encompassing love of humanity, whatever rumors you may have heard to the contrary. But, as Andrea said, as far as my application is concerned, I'm a happy-go-lucky team player. C'mon guys; let's play (metaphorical, team-building) ball! *spews*

What else is going on? As I noted, my mate and I are looking at a new (used) car. She's going to pick up our friend and Vovlo enthusiast [livejournal.com profile] girtygrin to investigate our most promising candidate after work today. At least, I think that's what's going on. I haven't heard the latest confirmed plans yet. For my part, since that meeting is going to require her to pick him up at about the same time she would have picked me up after work, my plan is to slip the bonds of the phone, walk directly across Michigan avenue to Starbucks, and sit in a booth drinking my hot chocolate and talking on my cell-phone (most likely to my brother) like a yuppie for a few hours. I should probably enjoy that while I can; it may be the closest to yuppiehood I'll ever be. Fortunately.

Actually, it won't all be drinking and talking; I brought a book with me to read. It's one of Andrea's favorites: Tom Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. It was a huge influence on her, she tells me, and I look forward to reading it.

Speaking of huge influences, Andrea and I were talking about making a list based on that meme that was going around a while ago. Top ten lists of your most influential media from various categories: books, movies, music, etc. Then, said lists having been assembled, we will go through each other's list and read, watch, or listen to any of them we haven't experienced before. I think this would be a really neat way to learn about each other. I'm just not sure I can pull together enough movies to make a list of ten. Books, on the other hand, should not be an issue. Should we do this, I'll probably post my lists here.

One of [livejournal.com profile] theferrett's posts about his change of eating habits has inspired me to rethink the way I eat. As Andrea noted in her journal, we watched Supersize Me together. While I can honestly say that nothing in the movie actually surprised me, it and other factors have lead to me to believe that I ought to do something about the way I eat.

What The Ferrett wrote about was not any kind of massive diet or other strangeness; he merely suggested a guideline for eating. Do not put anything in your mouth that is not entirely satisfying. This is an oddly difficult thing to do; I was full at lunch and yet it was still really difficult to put those three pieces of pizza back in the fridge for later. At the same time, it felt really good. I have a touch of food addiction I think, however unsensable that phrase may be, and stepping out of my typical habits like that felt really good. I just have to keep it up.

Actually, I'll be somewhat less concerned after we move. I'll be able to play Dance Dance Revolution in our new house because I won't have to worry about downstairs neighbors. I used to do about an hour a day of Dance Dance and that alone helped me keep in much better shape. I don't like the way I get winded running up the stairs these days.

Actually, there are other, equally important, reasons that I'm glad we no longer have downstairs or, indeed any, directly attached neighbors who might take exception to noise, but I probably don't need to go into such things here. *smiles*

Peace.

I called my brother to chat with him and he wasn't home. Phoo. I was going to ask his advice on titles to look for at the used game store.
I wandered around there for a while and found nothing of note. On the way there though, I did notice that the Dearborn public library is located right across the street from where I work. Woohoo! No sitting about in the lobby of a corporate coffee house for me. Instead, I get to browse through dusty tomes for a few hours. Now that's my kind of day. I've been picking some strange things to browse through though...

The first thing that caught my eye and pulled me over to it was a copy of the collected writings of Ambrose Bierce. For those unfamiliar with the man, he was born in the mid 1800s (I think I remember the book saying 1842) and wrote a bunch of stuff about the Civil War and and its times that all exudes creepiness on a level with Poe.

Next, as I, according to my habit, just wandered between shelves, I found a book that was comprised of interviews with mid-teen to early twenties gang members about their lives. This was creepy on an entirely different level, though it was interesting to read and feel like I understood such things a little bit better.

Hmm; maybe I'll go and sit down with Andrea's book that I'm still carrying around with me here. I still haven't managed to find any sizable collection of fiction though. Maybe it's on the first floor...

Mrrf. I'm hungry. Can't wait for my mate to get here so we can grab some shish-ta-wook and hummus!

Got a call from the raccoon. The car was a bust. It was stuck in overdrive and started overheating a few minutes into the test drive.

Back to stressing over cars...

[livejournal.com profile] girtygrin, thank you for going out with [livejournal.com profile] wooisme to take a look at it.
