stormdog: (Tawas dog)
Went to LAFF softball for the second time yesterday, the first being about two or three years ago. Oddly enough, at both occasions I had the opportunity to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] serinthia, whom I really like and enjoy talking too. It's too bad that doing such things on a regular basis would involve a considerable trip... It was really good to see all the other people I recognized too. I'll have to hunt down livejournal names and add a few people.

I won the 'most improved' award at the after-game cookout which was kind of odd since, including the two games of softball I've played with the LAFF crowd, I have willingly participated in a sum total of two softball games in my life. Or did I go to two last year; I can't quite remember. I do remember sitting down with [livejournal.com profile] boixboi before one game and nervously making him the first of my friends to know about the married woman in Michigan I was seeing. Hmm; I really need to get the house cleaned up so I can get up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and call Benjie or others and spend the day in Chicago without feeling like I'm neglecting things around here. I miss spending time with Benjie and Dave and Jim and everyone... But anyway, I apparently did decently well at softball and truly enjoyed myself which I once thought was not possible to combine with team sports. Bravo to all the people of LAFF who really play the game for fun!

Andrea and I visited my grandparents again on Thursday. We went out to great little diner they knew called Happy Jack's where I had a peanut-butter and chocolate shake that was heavenly. We went back to their house where we loaded a few more things into the cars; a one hundred amp arc welder went into the back of the truck while about half of the records they're loaning/giving to us went into the back of Andrea's car. Then, before leaving, I went down into the basement with my grandfather and he played me a bunch of MP3s of swing and jazz era music to introduce me to a few of the artists who are on the records that are now in my posession. He had some great stories to tell too about the times he was in Chicago and actually saw several of them perform. We haven't dug it up yet, but somewhere he has a signed Meade Lewis record. I can't wait to sit down and listen to a few of these.

My job continues to go fairly well. After some moments of panic the first and second week, I feel like I have a fairly good handle on things and that I'm not going to do to badly. I hate getting up as early as I do and wish the commute wasn't so long, but it's about the same length I was driving in Detroit, time-wise, and the traffic is much more sane. On top of that, I still feel really lucky to have this job and I'm trying very hard not to do anythng to screw it up. The people I deal with are very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed; it's about the best place for me that I could expect, I think.

Today, I'm probably going to spend a while cleaning up. I'd like to drop in on my parents and brothers since I haven't seen them in a while. Andrea was telling me that [livejournal.com profile] tincrash might be coming up, but she hasn't heard from him yet. *shrug* It's good to be up early. We'll see how much I can get done today, despite being sore from the softball game.
