stormdog: (Tawas dog)
Today was pretty good for me. I've been letting myself get a bit stressed by clutter in various parts of the house and the computer room was frustrating me particulary as I have had no furniture to put computers on. So, after Andrea left for faire this morning, I got up and went over to my parents house. I just helped them tear down their garage a week ago so they had some amount of lumber laying about, some of it even usable, though Moira might argue that point.

With some help from my brother and the Sawzall that Evil Bob left with my parents, I cut well-used but servicable lumber into appropriate sizes and, after hauling it home in my truck and spending some time rearranging things in the computer room, I got it assembled and standing. My new eight foot table has given me room to turn the teetering piles of computers and cables into something resembling an organized work room. I would take a picture if I wasn't worried about disturbing a sleeping raccoon girl by turning on the light and looking about for our camera. The tabletop is some rather unattractive chip-board and I attempted to make it look pretty with some contact paper, both to overcome the anticipated aesthetic objections from my mate (which I was not entirely successful at: at least I tried... *sigh*) and to prevent slivers. Ouch!

I finally have my servers tucked into their corner, their monitors and peripherals living on top of a desk instead of on the floor, and Andrea's computer is still next to and in front of the window where she told me she likes it. Best of all, I have room to set up three or four more systems on the new table on the east side of the room, depending on how tightly I pack them and how much free space I want to work. Plus, there's room underneath to stack up more hardware. Just standing and looking at order, or at least greatly reduced entropy, where once was chaos gives me this tremendous peace of mind. The next job is tackling the closet. Once I get that organized I can start stacking the units I'm not using in some kind of orderly fashion so I can find them when I need them. There's an idea...

I want to again note how much help my brother Tim was to me in all this work today; I may have been able to do it without him, but not without at least twice the time invested. Thank you Tim!

After all that was done, we spent a couple hours playing Secret of Mana together on my emulation computer down in the living room before and after my beloved returned from her day at the Bristol faire. The poor raccoon girl had a long, hot, and exhausting day and, immediately after getting some food at Marina Gardens (a local twenty-four hour restaurant that I haden't been to since occasionally dropping in after Lakeside Players meetings some three or four years ago so it brought some interesting memories to mind), collapsed into bed where, I think, I will soon join her. I love you so much my sunrise; I hope tomorrow is better for you. *kisses your forehead*
