Picture time!!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, here are two kilowords of pure content.

One picture of our fantastic new clothes drying system (and a perplexed looking dog who, for once, isn't me) and another of the new table (on the right) and the rather less cluttered computer room. The fact that I'm proud of this level of organization is merely indicative of the state it was in before. Let it not be said that entropy is irreversible!

I'm finally getting around to getting a phone number for our house and Moira suggested going with a broadband phone service like Vonage or Lingo. this seems like a pretty good idea, despite the fact that considering the possibility brought to mind the fact that classic analog phone service is probably on the beginning of the path to obsolescence, and that makes the wannabe old-school phone phreak in me more than a little bit sad. But anyway...

I'm looking at Lingo since it seems to have the best deal of the lot. Twenty a mont as compared to Vonage's twenty-five for unlimited time, plus extra numbers are five a month extra as compared to a full twenty five extra for Vonage. Makes me wonder why they're cheaper...

But the serious question I have is for techy types who've had experience with broadband phone. I note that they send a router that, I assume, directs VoIP packets to the phone and other data to the rest of the network. This is all well and good, but I'm concerened about whether I'll be able to use my own router if I want to.

See, I have a Cisco 2600 router that I would really like to be able to use on my network, but I'm concerned that I may have trouble setting it up in a way that's compatible with the VoIP data. Any comments on this? Anyone know a good place to ask?
